Upon the purchase of the Rescue Racing Truck Rick Massie started to feel this should be for a cause greater than just having fun for 6 guys and many friends. A friend of Rick's gave him a book titled "Terrify No More" by Gary A. Haugen. Gary is the president of International Justice Mission. The book is the true account of Gary and his team who go underground to rescue young girls held captive in the sex-slave industry around the world. Rick was so impacted by the book he called the yet-to-be-named racing team together and broached the idea to them, a big WHAT IF? WHAT IF we did this for a better reason than our just having fun and a good time? WHAT IF we purposed to bring awareness to everyone at these races, via the racing venue, the issue of children being sold and/or kidnapped into a life of sexual abuse and slavery? WHAT IF we contacted International Justice Mission and told them we wanted to help?
The response was an overwhelming "Yes!" And not just the guys, but our wives who were very apprehensive about our racing 100 mph across the desert suddenly were responding "Go For It".
With this response Rick contacted International Justice Mission and World Vision (who provide the safe houses once the kids are rescued). Their response was guarded at first as they are very protective of these abused children. After meeting with the Rescue Racing Team, hearing our desire to help and that we were not asking them to sponsor us, but we wanted to sponsor them, a bond was formed. |
